Man pleads guilty to trying to bribe jail guard

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) – A Windsor man is facing up to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges he bribed a jail guard to allow him conjugal visits with a woman.

Forty-year-old Frank Sargent pleaded guilty to conspiring to bribe a guard at the Addison County jail, where Sargent was being held on other charges.

The Addison County jail has a contract to hold federal detainees.

Federal prosecutors say Sargent paid the guard to allow the woman to visit him. The unidentified guard is no longer working for the jail and the U.S. Attorney’s office says that person remains under investigation.
