Review clears corrections officials

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Investigators have determined corrections officials did not violate work rules when they took 22 drug and alcohol addicted inmates to a banquet hall where drinks were served.

The superintendent and a captain from the St. Croix Correctional Center in New Richmond told investigators they didn’t know alcohol would be served at a bar’s banquet hall where inmates were taken to hear a motivational speaker.

Corrections officers, inmates and bartenders at Ready Randy’s Sports Bar & Grill in New Richmond said inmates were closely monitored and did not have access to alcohol.

The local Rotary Club sponsored the event and gave free tickets to prison officials so inmates could attend. St. Croix is a boot camp for inmates with drug and alcohol problems.
