Prisoner charged in wheelchair attack on guard

ANDERSON, IN (AP) – Prosecutors have filed an attempted murder charge against a prison inmate who is accused of beating a guard with the padded steel armrest of his wheelchair.

Forty-year-old Scott A. Nicholson of Bedford was a resident of the Pendleton Correctional Facility on Aug. 7, 2007, when prosecutors say he attacked 63-year-old prison guard Loren Hartley.

Hartley suffered numerous cuts and bruises in the attack.

Nicholson also faces the death penalty in the death of a fellow inmate at the Miami Correctional Facility.

He is charged with the murder of 64-year-old David L. Hensley, who was beaten to death with the arm of a wheelchair. Hensley was bedridden when he was killed in the prison’s infirmary.
